PERSPECTIVE

PERSPECTIVE
What is perspective according to the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy)?
f. Point of view from which a matter is considered or analyzed.
"Ten days ago, we experienced something that can be considered an anecdote. As we left the house with Gaby, we got on the elevator, and the door wouldn't close properly. We chose "-1", and the door broke down. We couldn't go down or up, and we couldn't get out. We were locked in the elevator.
At that very moment, I began to feel despair. I was short of breath, so I started to take off the coats I was wearing. We began to ask for help and called our neighbor, who was not at home but rushed to help us.
At the same time, we started to press the assistance button inside the elevator, but we were told that the technician was half an hour away.
From the other side of the elevator, our neighbors tried to open the door without success. What they did do was to encourage us, to cheer us up, to tell us that everything was going to be all right.
While all this was happening, I phoned Susi, my mother-in-law, to distract myself from thinking I was locked in. I also put on my make-up so that the time would pass quicker.
After a while, the technician arrived. He started to take the elevator up and down; at that moment, I got scared. Suddenly, the door closed, and I felt short of breath.
However, the technician was finally able to open the door, and we got out.
As we did so, Nestor (my father-in-law) and our neighbors were hugging us."
But, what does this story have to do with PERSPECTIVE?
Let me tell you so you can understand that this prepared me for what would come two days later.
A little over a month ago, Gaby's foot began to swollen. We went to the ER, and they gave him medicine and some creams, and the swelling went down. However, we had to return to the ER last Sunday as the foot was much worse. After some back and forth, he was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday.
The Dr. started telling him that he was going to be admitted for one to two weeks to keep him under observation and that the infection and inflammation would go down and improve with IV medication. This care with Gaby is of paramount importance because as a diabetic, anything that can happen to his foot requires close attention.
Two days ago, while I was in the room, I took the picture above and got to thinking about perspective, and the way I was dealing with the issue.
Was I going to despair or stay calm?
Then I decided to stay calm, like the day I was locked in the elevator. To stay calm is to know that God is in control, and just like in the elevator, I am calm because I know that people on the other side are praying, encouraging, and accompanying us.
In different situations we go through in life, we can see the same scene from two perspectives. We can see how big the problem is or we can see the great God who is above the problem. Choose to see how great God is.
Do we see life from our perspective or do we see it from God's perspective?
If we see our life from our perspective, we are going to see the earthly, we are going to see problems great, and we are going to see that there are impossible things. We are going to be limited.
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2 NIV
If our perspective is on the earthly, on the problems, we are going to feel overwhelmed, we are going to feel that everything invades us, that we cannot move forward.
But if we see things from God's perspective, we will see far beyond the problems. We will rest in the fact that God is in control.
What will be your perspective for this 2024? Will it be looking at your problems, looking within the four walls?
Or will it be looking at the great God, who is above the problems? Let's stay calm. God is with us.
Surround yourself with people who are on the other side of the elevator door cheering you on, encouraging you, because soon the technician will come and get you out of the elevator. There is always a way out. God is there.
Thank you for always reading us! We send you a big hug from the Hospital.
We love you!
